SUMMARY:Organization Design ‘Coffee to Cocktails Club’ – February
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday, February 17th | 11AM – 12PM (ET)(third Tuesdays) Join Brandon Curry, ODF Board MemberLet’s talk all things Organization Design! ODF will host a monthly virtual coffee (or cocktail depending on where you are in the globe) club for people interested in or working in the field. We meet monthly for two to three rounds of participant-led breakouts to chat about topics of special interest to practitioners.Would you want to join? What are you fascinated by? Let us know! Topic: Shifting Power Dynamics thru DesignOrganization design often allows for the the deliberate allocation of power and authority to achieve strategic intent. Whether we label it ‘centralization,’ ’empowerment,’ or ‘governance,’ every structural line we draw and every decision right we assign fundamentally alters who has the agency to act. This theme is critical for practitioners because power shifts can be among the most emotionally charged and politically sensitive aspects of our work; they are where the dry logic of design meets the volatile reality of leadership ego and control.By examining real-world examples of how power is redistributed—through P&L ownership, reporting lines, or lateral processes—we can better anticipate the resistance we will face. Learning from one another’s experiences allows us to move beyond the simplistic binary of ‘Centralized vs. Decentralized’ and equips us to help leaders navigate the inevitable friction of these shifts, ensuring that the new power dynamics actually deliver the intended speed, innovation, or efficiency rather than just creating new bottlenecks.Join a rich conversation with your fellow Organization Design Practitioners!Three rounds of breakouts – conversation prompter questions include:Share an example you have personally experienced where power was shifted in an organization through an organization design initiative (Changing Structure, Managing Processes, Decision Rights, P&L and/or incentive structures, etc.). What drove the decision (Cost? Speed? Control? Innovation?) and how effectively did the change produce the desired effect? Were there any unplanned or undesirable consequences? How do you help leaders develop options and decide how to adapt the power dynamics of their organizations to achieve their desired outcomes?Freestyle – Open Networking Sign up for free Zoom link The ODF Coffee to Cocktails Club is a place to connect, share, and learn. We build community around a shared passion for Organization Design. We encourage people at all levels of experience and a vast array of interests to attend.
