Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare is committed to providing excellent care to children and families with complex medical needs. That is the core of Gillette’s mission. While essential to maintain the core of its compelling mission, Barbara knew it was also critical for Gillette to significantly strengthen its innovation capabilities to maintain their leading position while addressing performance shortfalls and gaps that would continue to burden and hold back Gillette over time.

It’s a rare opportunity to listen to and talk candidly with a CEO and EVP/General Counsel about their efforts to modernize an operating model. Joining Barbara Joers and Paula Montgomery will be Mark LaScola, Managing Principal of OTM and the lead Consultant for the Gillette project.

Gillette needed more substantive change beyond the changes already made. But how do you substantively change a business that’s been operating for over 120 years with legacy behaviors deeply engrained? Having witnessed firsthand the collaborative modernization of Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals (CMNH) operating model as a Board Member for CMNH, Barbara reached out to OTM in Oct/Nov 2018. By early Jan 2019, she decided to complete a redesign of Gillette ensuring their operating model was fit to propel them into the future.

From the beginning, Barbara involved 20-30 leaders from across the administrative and clinical parts of the Gillette business to build both support and “stickiness” for change. Working in increments of three-to-four-hour virtual workshops, it took one year to move from Current State Review to Implementation
