February topic: Designing for governance – decision-making and accountability – when we are required to support individuals and groups in a complex process of behavior change
Each organization we work with or work for has a unique culture around decision making and accountability. Some avoid it at all costs. Others veer toward dictatorial. At the core of these practices is often a desire to avoid organizational tension and the discomfort that comes with it. However, organizational tension is the lifeforce of ingenuity and agility; if harnessed correctly, it can greatly improve organizational performance.
When designing for governance, we are required to support individuals and groups in a complex process of behavior change. This means letting go of old patterns and embracing new habits. It means building mental and emotional capacities at the individual, group, and organizational levels. This month’s discussion focuses on how we do that. What do you design? What practices do you use? What parts of yourself do you bring? How do you manage yours and others’ emotions?
The ODF Coffee (or Cocktails) Club is a place to connect, share, and learn. We build community around a shared passion for Organization Design.
The Org Design Coffee Club will meet monthly for group conversation on topics of special interest in the field. We encourage people at all levels of experience and a vast array of interests to attend.
