We meet monthly for two to three rounds of small group conversations on topics of special interest to practitioners.

July Topic: Design as a Means of Negotiation / Reaching Agreements
The critical role of negotiation and agreement-building within the organization design process, particularly when addressing effectiveness across multiple organizational units. Participants will share their experiences and strategies for understanding diverse stakeholder interests, developing mutually beneficial options, and navigating trade-offs to reach legitimate agreements. The session emphasizes practical application and peer learning.
Often, when organization designers are asked to help management teams improve organization effectiveness across multiple units of an organization, there is a significant amount of work to be done to understand and reach agreement on their individual and shared interests, options, and the legitimacy of the options.
Prompt ?1: What are the most effective strategies for uncovering the true, underlying interests of diverse stakeholders when initiating an organization design project, especially when their stated positions might differ significantly?
